The Package

The Func sUrface1030 Archetype came in a large, retail package. The clear, plastic box allows you to peek inside and see the mouse pad and its mousing surface from the front. It also lists the Archetype's key features and select awards that the Archetype has won.

At the back, you can check out the other key features of the mouse pad, as well as the list of the package's contents.

The plastic box was quite thick because the Archetype actually comes with a tin case. When you open the box, you will note that the mouse pad is actually sitting inside the case, with the case cover placed behind the case.

The tin case has a felt-line base with a cut-out that fits the Archetype snugly. There's a notch in the base that allows you to lift out the Archetype from its resting place.

When we lifted out the Archetype, we discovered that the felt-covered base had three additional sections cut out for the Product Guide, the mouse cord clip and a case sticker.

Overall, the packaging was good. It gave the Archetype a really professional look. Probably the only complaint about such plastic packages is their susceptibility to direct physical insults. Take a look at the dent on the included tin case. There were actually two dents on the one we received.

As such, if you intend to have this package shipped anywhere, be sure to have it packed inside a hard cardboard box with bubble wrap or foam packaging to protect it against damage during transportation.

Incidentally, we also noted that the cover of the tin case fitted loosely. If you are going to use it as a carry case for your Archetype, you may want to use a large rubber band to properly secure the cover. We hope that Func will do something about the loose cover.
