The NVIDIA Release 260 GeForce Drivers

In conjunction with the launch of the new NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450 graphics card, NVIDIA is also launching their new Release 260 GeForce drivers. This is no ordinary driver release. Release 260 is a "big one", with new features and greatly improved performance. Let's take a look at what's new!

Here's a summary of the changes in the Release 260 drivers. Incidentally, the first point may state " Performance Boost for GTX 400 Series" but NVIDIA asserts that while most of the performance benefits will apply to the GeForce 400 series of graphics cards, older graphics cards will still see some performance benefits from the new driver, in addition to the new features.

This slide shows a variety of benchmarks and the frame rate improvements that can be expected from those games. Overall, NVIDIA claims that the Release 260 drivers will improve the performance of GeForce 400 series graphics cards by 10-15%.

The Release 260 drivers also feature improved SLI scaling. As NVIDIA showed us in the GeForce GTS 450 presentation, the new Release 260 drivers enable SLI scaling of 90-95%. This should be great news for users of older graphics cards. You can almost double the performance of your current NVIDIA graphics card by purchasing a similar card and running the two cards in SLI mode.
