The Package

The 24-120mm VR comes in the standard flimsy champagne-gold Nikon box. The lens itself is protected by cardboard spacers though.

Box

Inside, you will find these following items :

      • Nikon AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor 24-120mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED lens
      • HB-25 bayonet-type hood
      • 72mm lens cap
      • Rear lens cap
      • Manual
      • Warranty information sheet
      • Warranty card

Size Comparison

This lens is larger than the D70's kit lens - the AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G IF-ED. Although it's just a little wider, it quite a bit longer.

At minimum zoom

The difference in length is further accentuated when both lenses are fully zoomed out.

At maximum zoom

The petal-shaped hood of the 24-120mm VR is splayed out wider than the 18-70mm's hood, making the lens appear larger than it really is.

With hood (reversed)

The AF-S VR 24-120mm's wider hood is also more susceptible to damage, even when it's reversed. So, you need to watch out or you will crack the hood.
