Introduction
Do I even need to introduce Corsair? If you have never heard of them, then you probably should stop reading now! Just kidding!
Corsair is one of the most popular memory manufacturers despite great competition from the likes of Mushkin, Kingston and Crucial. Corsair covers a wide range of the memory market with their Value Select, low latency and high speed memory modules.
Corsair was the first to introduce the Samsung TCCD memory chips to the masses with their PC3200XL series. The Samsung TCCD is probably the best replacement for Winbond's famous BH5 chips.
DDR SDRAM is still very popular among many users because of a large number of procesors still support only DDR SDRAM. Even the AMD Athlon 64 processors currently supports DDR SDRAM only. Only Intel's new LGA755 motherboards can actually the higher latency DDR2 which is far more scalable.
Corsair recently launched their new range of high-speed PC4400 DDR550 modules. These Hynix-based modules feature a lower CAS Latency of 2.5, instead of the default 3 clock cycles. Today, we will be looking at their 1GB dual-channel memory kit from that range - the Corsair TWINX1024-4400C25PT. These new paired memory modules boast timings of 2.5-4-4-8 at 275MHz.
However, if you are looking for 'bling bling' in the form of running LEDs that distinguished the Pro series, you will be disappointed. Corsair decided not to add PC4400 into the Pro series. So, if you really need more 'bling bling', then your only option is get Corsair's PC4000 Pro modules. These PC4400 modules are obviously targeted at serious overclockers of both Intel and AMD platforms.
Packaging
Corsair has chosen to use their standard plastic packaging for retail display. So, no Mushkin style airbox here.
The packaging is 100% identical to past Corsair products that we reviewed.
At the back of the box, you can clearly see outdated year 2003 accolades from various online hardware sites. Hmm... Will we be listed one day?
