This is the most important test for those who intend to use the 2 TB Western Digital My Passport Ultra as a portable boot drive. In this small random access test, it performed exactly as well as the My Passport Metal / Anniversary Edition but they were both quite a bit slower than the 1 TB Western Digital My Passport Slim.

When it came to large 512 KB random accesses, the 2 TB Western Digital My Passport Ultra was slightly faster than the My Passport Metal / Anniversary Edition. It is actually the fastest drive when it comes to large random reads, but slipped behind the 1 TB Western Digital My Passport Slim in large random writes.

This is the most important of the two key tests for the 2 TB Western Digital My Passport Ultra as this shows how fast it is at transferring large files. This is what you will be doing most of the time with this drive - transferring large files (defined in this case, as 512 KB or larger).
In this aspect, the My Passport Ultra was the indisputable champion, edging out the 2 TB My Passport Metal / Anniversary Edition, and significantly faster than the 2 TB Western Digital My Passport and the 1 TB Western Digital My Passport Slim.
It is over 3x faster than their much cheaper, "commoditized" WD Elements drive. You do get what you pay for when you buy these faster drives!
