WinBench 99 Version 2.0

Business Disk WinBench 99

The Kingston SSDNow V+ was average in this test, coming in third amongst the six SSDs we tested. It was, incidentally, 26.6% faster than the fastest desktop hard disk drive right now - the 600 GB Western Digital VelociRaptor.

High-End Disk WinBench 99

The Kingston SSDNow V+ SSD did better in the High-End Disk WinMark 99 test, where it was the second-fastest drive in this test, delivering an amazing transfer rate of 121 MB/s. That puts it within 7% of the 256 GB Western Digital SiliconEdge Blue and just 2.5% shy of the Western Digital VelociRaptor.

However, when used with the USB enclosure, its performance dropped to the same level as the 2 TB Western Digital Caviar Green, a hard disk drive that spins just above 5400 RPM.

Disk Transfer Rate

This chart shows you the range of platter-to-buffer transfer rates from the innermost track to the outermost track for hard disk drives, and the range of memory cell to controller transfer rates for solid state drives. In other words, it shows you the range of transfer rates of hard disk drives and solid state drives (from minimum and maximum).

Unlike hard disk drives which deliver a wide range of transfer rates, solid state drives have an almost uniform transfer rate across the entire device. With an almost flat transfer rate of 217-220 MB/s, the Kingston SSDNow V+ SSD isn't a very fast SSD. In fact, it was the second slowest SSD in this comparison as far as the internal transfer rate was concerned. Do keep in mind though that its transfer rate rate is still 44% better than the best possible transfer rate of a hard disk drive, namely the 600 GB Western Digital VelociRaptor.

When used with its USB enclosure, the Kingston SSDNow V+'s transfer rate dropped to about 34-35 MB/s.
