NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GTX Graphics Card |
Of course, thanks to its use of the 90nm process
technology and the trimming of several million transistors, it's also
smaller and cheaper to make. But because this is a premium product,
we doubt you will actually see the savings! Even though it is cooler, the GeForce 7900 GTX still runs pretty hot under heavy load, but the fan's noise level is surprisingly quiet. It's actually as quiet as the fan used in the GeForce 7800 GTX and quieter than the fan used in the new GeForce 7900 GT! However, overclocking it was not easy. We only managed to overclock the core by 52MHz and the memory by 100MHz. While there's overclocking potential, you will need to keep this beast really cool to properly realize its full clock speed potential. Performance-wise, you can run any game at 16xAF
and 4xAA with virtually no loss in performance. Enabling Transparency
Anti-Aliasing may incur some performance loss but generally, it's not
very significant. Armed with a single GeForce 7900 GTX, you can confidently
play any game at 1600x1200 with 16xAF and 4xAA enabled. Don't worry
about frame rates. Just concentrate on gaming! Although there is a lot of hubbub about SLI (including the recent announcement of SLI Physics), there's really no need for anyone to run two GeForce 7900 GTX cards in SLI at this moment, especially when the fastest processors in the market aren't fast enough to harness the full potential of a GeForce 7900 GTX SLI setup. Running these cards in SLI is really only for a very select group of users who absolutely want the best performance without any cost considerations. If you are one of them, well, you have to make sure you have the fastest processor money can buy, large amounts of RAM (2GB would be nice!), a good SLI motherboard and a very large LCD panel with a resolution greater than just 1600x1200. Anything less will just waste the GeForce 7900 GTX SLI's potential. You have to be insane not to love this card,
but you have to be insane to get this card as well! The price tag is
as mind-blowing as its predecessor. Evidently, cost savings in manufacturing
this chip does not really translate into lower prices for consumers
like us. We sure loved the NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GTX, but its price tag
is way beyond our means... Because of its tremendous processing power, we are proud to award it our Reviewer's Choice Award! If only the price was lower... But still, congratulations, NVIDIA! For more details, read our Comprehensive Review! |

* Our New Review System
ARP is committed to developing new ways to improve your experience with us. As part of our continuous efforts to improve the value of our reviews to you, we are implementing a new review system.
This new review system is designed to allow you to quickly receive information on the latest hardware. This new system also allows you to quickly get the gist of the review without reading through it. This can be very useful, especially in situations where you need to make a quick purchase decision.
In this new system, we start with a Product Overview whenever a company sends us a press release about their latest product. We shift through extraneous PR-talk to create a straightforward summary of the product's features as well as its specifications. This allows you to quickly find out all the pertinent details about the product, without reading through official press releases.
When we receive the product for review, we will quickly take photos of it and create a Pictorial Review. The purpose of a pictorial review is to allow you, the reader, to quickly examine the product visually. It may help you make better purchase decisions, especially if you cannot wait for the full review.
After thorough testing, we will post a Comprehensive Review of the product. This adds on to the pictorial review with comprehensive test results and our final conclusion on the product.
But no matter whether you are reading a Pictorial Review or a Comprehensive Review, you can always read the summary of the review as well as examine the product's specifications right on the first page. In all our new reviews, we will maintain the first page as a Product Overview page. If the product is listed in PriceGrabber, you can also check out the lowest price online.
We hope this new review system will make your experience a lot more enjoyable and informative!
