ED#216 : Alcatel Flash 2 Smartphone First Look
On the 15th of October 2015, Alcatel invited us to the launch of the Alcatel Flash 2 smartphone. Like the original Alcatel Flash smartphone, the new Alcatel Flash 2 is focused on mobile photography. It builds upon Alcatel's commitment to providing their users with a unique mobile photography experience, which they dubbed mobigraphy.
The launch event was held at the swanky new Damansara Performing Arts Centre (DPAC), with Albert Wong (General Manager of Alcatel Flash), Michael Chen (Product Director of Alcatel Flash) and Hans-Peter Ressel (CEO of Lazada Malaysia) in attendence. Take a look at our video coverage of the event :
Now, let's take a closer look at the Alcatel Flash 2...

First Look At the Alcatel Flash 2
The Alcatel Flash 2 smartphone has a 5" IPS display with a resolution of 1280 x 720. Its main features are its front and rear cameras. The front camera boasts not just a larger 1/4" sensor and autofocus capability, it even comes with an LED flash. The main gSight camera at the back has a 13 MP Samsung ISOCELL sensor with a f/2.0 lens and a dual-tone LED flash.
The Alcatel Flash 2 smartphone is powered by the MediaTek MT6753 SoC that features a 1.3 GHz octa-core ARM Cortex-A53 processor and the ARM Mali-T720MP4 GPU. It comes with 2 GB of LPDDR3 SDRAM to run the pure Android 5.1 operating system and apps. The Flash 2 also comes with 16 GB of internal flash storage, that's expandable to 128 GB via a microSD card.
The Alcatel Flash 2 is a dual-SIM, dual-standby smartphone. This is a pretty nice feature to have at this price point. The dual-SIM, dual-standby capability means you can install and use two SIM cards. The only difference from dual-active smartphones is that all calls and messages to the other SIM card will be temporarily ignored when you receive a call from one SIM card.
The Alcatel Flash 2 will be exclusively sold via Lazada in a unique flash sale from 10 am until 2 pm on the 26th of October 2015 for just RM 549 (~USD 129). It will come with a matching Alcatel Flash flip cover and screen protector, as well as stereo earbuds. This is just as well, as it doesn't look like the Alcatel Flash 2 screen has an oleophobic coating.
