How Much Faster Is It?
Here, NVIDIA pitted the new GeForce GTX 760 against the AMD Radeon HD 7950, and the slightly faster AMD Radeon HD 7950 with Boost.
Do note that, as usual, the chart is skewed to make the difference appear larger. The fact is the GeForce GTX 760 is, on average, about 15% faster than the Radeon HD 7950. It is faster, no doubt, just not as much as the chart makes it out to be.
NVIDIA also benchmarked the new GeForce GTX 760 running at a high resolution of 1920x1080 against the GeForce GTX 560 and the GeForce GTX 275.
In Metro : Last Light, the GeForce GTX 760 was about 72% faster than the GeForce GTX 560 and 2.5X faster than the GeForce GTX 275, which was only running in the DirectX 10 mode.
In Planetside 2, the GeForce GTX 760 was 82% faster than the GeForce GTX 560, and over 2.8X faster than the GeForce GTX 275.
More importantly, the new GeForce GTX 760 was able to play those games at good frame rates, while the older cards were obviously too old to handle the new games.
It's Not Just The Speed
NVIDIA made it a point to remind us that it isn't just about the frame rate. It is also about the new visual capabilities that the improved performance enables in the latest games. For example, upgrading from the GeForce GTX 560 to the GeForce 760 automatically enables key features like Tessellation and PhysX for a more realistic and immersive gameplay. I can't say I disagree!
Here is a summary of the additional features that the GeForce GTX 760 would enable in the latest games, and what upcoming games will support.
