ED#197 : One Apple & Three Samsung Tidbits For You

We recently heard some juicy bits of information from our sources, who shall remain unnamed (naturally). Without wasting time, here are some juicy tidbits that might interest you Apple and Samsung fans!

Apple Tidbit

Apple is on the cusp of increasing the prices of their products in Malaysia, due to the falling value of the Ringgit. They have already informed the telcos, who have in turn informed their resellers, so the price increase is imminent.

If you are thinking of purchasing an Apple iPhone, iPad or MacBook, NOW would a good time to get one. We will update you guys when we have more news.

Samsung Tidbits

Samsung Malaysia enjoyed a great public release of their Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge smartphones at the Gardens Mall, Mid Valley today, where 250+ Samsung fans lined up to buy them. Some lined up as early as 7:45 am, even though the Samsung Experience Store does not open until 10 am.

Dato Lee Chong Wei came at 11 am to officiate the public release of the two new Galaxy smartphones and to give away 80 badminton rackets that he personally autographed to 30 contest winners and the first 50 pre-order customers!

Incidentally, we discovered that Samsung Malaysia is also under pressure from the falling Ringgit to increase the price of their newly launched Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge smartphones. They are holding it off for as long as possible, but if the Ringgit continues to drop against the US Dollar, they may have no choice but to raise their prices.

So if you are looking to buy a Samsung smartphone, NOW would be a good time to get one.

For those who are waiting for the 64 GB models of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, you will have to wait longer because the poor exchange rate will make it extremely expensive and unlikely to sell well. So Samsung Malaysia is unlikely to bring in the 64 GB models until the exchange rate is more favourable.

We also found out that the Galaxy S6 Edge in Gold Platinum was completely sold out in pre-orders, while the Galaxy S6 in Gold Platinum was sold out that very day. They still have stocks of the two models, but only in Black Sapphire and White Pearl colours.

With regards to claims that certain telcos (like Celcom and Maxis) have "exclusive" rights to the elusive Green Emerald and Blue Topaz colours, the truth is they were lucky to order early enough to receive stocks of these colours in the first batch. Samsung Malaysia never signed any exclusivity deals with any telco.

If you are waiting for these elusive colours, the next batch should arrive early to mid May. However, there's no guarantee they will still be sold at the launch price as the exchange rate could worsen and force Samsung Malaysian to raise prices.
