The GU-P05 GeeDom
The GU-P05 GeeDom is a cute little black affair with a clear cap on one end and a clear lanyard loop on the other end. The lanyard loop also serves as a conduit for the LED activity light.
The only difference between the front and back of the drive is the GeeDom logo. Note that the capacity is not printed on the plastic shell, but is instead etched into the USB connector.
The build quality is good and it feels like a solid, dependable drive. Although it looks like there is a lot of space between the cap and the USB connector, it actually fits snugly and does not move around much. This drive definitely feels well-made.
While not as minuscule as the OCZ Mini-Kart, this is still a small USB flash drive. It is only 6 cm long, 1.7 cm wide and 9 mm thick. Without the lanyard, it weighs a feather-light 8 g.
We compared the GeeDom against the following USB flash drives (from right to left in the top picture, and from left to right in the second picture) :
- Kingston 128MB Data Traveler
- Corsair 4GB Flash Voyager
- OCZ 1GB Rally
As you can see, the GeeDom is only slightly thicker than the OCZ Rally drive and is almost half the thickness of the Corsair Voyager.
But the GeeDom is certainly shorter than the other drives. Only the OCZ Mini-Kart (not pictured) is shorter and significantly thinner than then GeeDom.
No matter how small the GeeDom is, it is hardly its major selling point. It's designed to provide a cheap and fast form of flash storage, and that is something we will be looking at next.
