Far From Live @ Computex, But We Are Here!
Sorry for the late coverage! Computex has been a real whirlwind of activity. I've been running around like a headless chicken because there is just so many things to see and do here.
Okay, fine, I was really messed up by the scale of the whole event, with THREE convention halls and numerous suites in a hotel just around Taipei 101 and ANOTHER convention hall 30 minutes to an hour away at Nangang.
Let you in on a really embarrassing secret, as long as you do not let anyone else know. Through sheer navigational stupidity, we once walked AROUND the entire Taipei 101-exhibition hall complex just to get to a place that was "just across the road", according to instructions.
In our defence, we had plenty of "help" from the locals who did not seem to know the area either!
Anyway, most of my first day here was spent looking for a decent hotel. This is what happens when you do not plan at least weeks ahead for Computex. Most of the decent AND affordable hotels were fully booked, so I had no choice but to book a cheap pad for the first night and scour Taipei for a better hotel the next day. This was also why I had to fly in earlier...
After calling up almost all the hotels in Taipei, we finally found a reasonably good base of operations in the north-eastern part of Taipei. Then, armed with a cup of Taiwan's famous zhen zhu nai cha (milk tea with black pearls), we set out to conquer Computex 2008!
