GPU Boost 2.0
Like the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 and the GeForce GTX 770, the new GeForce GTX 760 will also feature an improved version of GPU Boost. As you all know, GPU Boost automatically overclocks the GPU by a predetermined amount if the graphics card is still operating within a defined power target - 170 W in the GeForce GTX 680 for example.
GPU Boost 2.0 changes the trigger from the power target to an 80 °C temperature target. What this means is the GeForce GTX 760 is likely to stay "boosted" all of the time, as long as the GPU's temperature remains below the 80 °C. So third-party manufacturers using a more powerful fan, or users ramping up the fans manually, can help increase the amount of overclocking GPU Boost 2.0 delivers.
New Adaptive Temperature Controller
The new GeForce GTX 760 will also feature a new adaptive temperature controller, which reduces its fan noise level by about 5 dBA. It is important to note that decible is logarithmic in nature, so a 5 dBA difference is very significant.
NVIDIA achieved this not by reducing the fan speed, but rather by smoothening the fan speed fluctuations. This is because the fan speed is usually tied to the graphics card's temperature and will ramp up and slow down according to changes in its temperature. Those changes in fan speed actually increase the noise level, so by smoothening the fluctuations in fan speed, they were able to cut down the noise level.
NVIDIA will be providing this technology to all of their partners, so even if they implement their own cooler designs, it will work with those fans. In case you are wondering, this new feature cannot be turned off, but the fan speed can be increased or decreased by the user.
Price And Availability
The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 will have an official launch price of USD 249, and is immediately available from NVIDIA's partners in both the reference design as well as their own custom designs.
NVIDIA also mentioned that this will be the last GeForce 700 series card for the year. In 2013, the GeForce GTX 760 will be the lowest-end graphics card for the series, with the other GeForce 600 series graphics cards continuing to be sold throughout this year.
