How Fast Is The GeForce GTX 570? (Continued)
In this tesselation test, the new NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 graphics card trounced the AMD Radeon HD 5870 and Radeon HD 6870 graphics cards so thoroughly that we would have expected AMD engineers to throw up their arms in surrender and just hand over the world to NVIDIA. Of course, the world uses these graphics cards to do more than just tesselation...
Of course, NVIDIA knows this, which is why they finished off the performance comparison with this chart that shows how much faster the GeForce GTX 570 is compared to the Radeon HD 5870 in DirectX 11 games. Based on these results, the GeForce GTX 570 is about 43% faster on average than the Radeon HD 5870 in this selection of DirectX 11 titles.
The GeForce GTX 570's improved performance is great, but even NVIDIA knows you need to find something to do with all that processing power. The latest fad is tesselation, of course, but what if you have tons of spare processing power? Well, try multiple tesselation layers! Here's a screenshot of NVIDIA's new Alien Vs. Triangles tesselation tech demo which demonstrates the effect. Of course, whether games will actually implement multiple tesselation layers remains to be seen.
As far as real world games go, NVIDIA's favourite game to demonstrate tesselation is Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. 2.
Obviously, tesselation is a nice feature to have, but unless you are a pixel peeper comparing screenshots with tesselation on and off, you are unlikely to notice the difference. Why do you think they actually have to have a video to demonstrate the difference?
