The HyperX Cloud II

As mentioned earlier, the HyperX Cloud II Gaming Headset is the improved version of the original HyperX Cloud gaming headset that HyperX co-developed with QPAD, the Swedish professional gaming gear company. It now features a USB audio control box with a built-in sound card that generates virtual 7.1 surround sound, as well as a new digitally-enhanced, noise-cancelling microphone with automatic gain control and echo cancellation.

The Headband

The HyperX Cloud II Gaming Headset's headband has a thick padding of memory foam, covered by leatherett with a large HyperX logo stitched on top.

The headband is adjustable in 8 small steps, but frankly, you aren't going to need any of them.

The first thing we noted when we tried it on was how small it was. Even though we have relatively small heads, we could only wear it with the headband fully extended. So if you have a big head, be warned!

The Ear Cups

The HyperX Cloud II Gaming Headset's ear cups are large because they were designed to completely enclose the ears to provide some passive noise reduction. They come with leatherette ear pads by default but these can be switched to velour ear pads (also provided) for comfort.

Leatherette is a type of synthetic leather made from fabric coated with PVC or TPU. Although the leatherette ear pads are more durable and waterproof than velour or even genuine leather, they don't "breathe" and your ears can get a little sweaty.

The cable that supplies power and the audio signal to the headset attaches to the left ear cup, which then channels the signal to the right ear cup via a thinner cable that runs through the headband. This cable is about 1 meter long.
