Multiplayer
The multiplayer option was great. Not only do you get to choose your race but you also get to customize your fleet's color based on the provided multi-color tab. Here, you can choose the color for your ships' base and stripe colors. You even get to upload your own insignia for the ships!
I tried the multiplayer option with a bunch of my friends over Internet with one of us acting as the host. Good news is everything worked out fine. The only bad point about the multiplayer option is that it only supports up to 6 players. I really wished this game would support at least 8 players or even more, like the Age of Mythology.
As for Player vs CPU skirmishes, the CPU is manageable in the first three difficulty levels. However, in the hardest level, the CPU seems to be able to produce units at insane speeds! Overall, I must say they provide a really good fight.
Bugs In The System?
The game was generally stable, no crashes whatsoever. However, I did face some problems after loading a game.
Let's say I jumped into a new mission and it auto-saved. Then I screw up a little and decide to reload. On reloading the game, the frame rate will actually drop to less than 20 fps. In contrast, the usual frame rate is about 45 fps. Sometimes, I just resign myself to finish off the mission with the lag. It was still playable. Unfortunately, changing to the lowest resolution and reducing the level of detail did not help.
I ran this game with full detail settings with a screen resolution of 1024 x 768 and using default sound settings. Anti-Aliasing and Anistrophic Filtering were turned off. Other than the above mentioned problem, everything was great! In fact, I can actually play a multiplayer game with 4x Anti-Aliasing enabled.
