A Tale Of Two VelociRaptors

Conclusion

The Western Digital VelociRaptor is not only a phenomenally fast hard disk drive, it is also very expensive. Thus, you would want to be sure you are choosing the fastest model possible. After all, those who buy the VelociRaptor are after only one thing - pure performance. No one wants to end up with a model that compromises on performance for lower noise levels or lower power consumption.

After comparing the BLFS and HLFS models, we can safely say that both are virtually identical in performance. While there are noticeable differences in their performance, they are "statistically insignificant". The difference in performance is almost certainly due entirely to normal manufacturing variances.

However, the VelociRaptor HLFS model has at least two significant advantages. Thanks to the inclusion of its mounting frame, the VelociRaptor HLFS is not only much easier to mount in regular PC cases than the 2.5" VelociRaptor BLFS, it is also much cooler (by 3-6 °C). These two advantages make the choice an easy one for PC users - the VelociRaptor HLFS.

Of course, you can also opt for the GLFS model. The only difference between the HLFS and the GLFS is the minor fact that GLFS' mounting frame does not support backplane mounting. For PC users, this is a moot point. Both the HLFS and the GLFS will fit into any PC case just fine.
