What's New & Cool @ OCZ Technology
OCZ Technology had a suite set up next door at the Grand Hyatt Taipei so we dropped by for a look-see, right after the Intel Atom launch. We were finally able to meet up with the OCZ team - Alex Mei, Simon Chen and the absolutely stunning Jessica Luken.
Unfortunately, the conflicting schedule meant that we had to miss the ceremony at which Johnathan "Fatal1ty" Wendel officially endorse a new series of OCZ Technology memory and PSU products bearing his moniker. Oh well, there will always be another Fatal1ty endorsement...
Game-Boosting RAM?
Although we missed the endorsement ceremony, we were shown OCZ Technology's new "Fatal1ty-approved" PC2-8500 DDR2 memory module. Take a look. These are 1 GB modules that run at 1066 MHz DDR at 2.2 V with timings of 5-5-5.
The new memory module looks pretty nice with Fatal1ty logo on it, but if you think that just buying any Fatal1ty-endorsed product will help you play better, then you will be in for some rude shocks at the next LAN party. Even Fatal1ty has to practice to be that good.
OCZ PC2-9200 Flex II Xtreme Liquid Convection Memory
For extreme overclocking enthusiasts, OCZ is offering the new PC2-9200 Flex II memory kit. It consists of two 2 GB PC2-9200 memory modules that run at 1150 MHz DDR at 2.1 V with timings of 5-5-5-18. They are equipped with what OCZ calls their Flex II Xtreme Liquid Convection heatsinks.
These are basically water-cooling heatsink, hence the fancy term, Xtreme Liquid Convection. The biggest advantage of OCZ's solution is that they provide everything you will need to use the memory modules with your water-cooling setup, including the necessary plastic tubing and barb adaptors.
OCZ Solid State Drives
In addition to their current stable of SATA and SATA II solid state drives (SSD), OCZ Technology is going to offer both faster and slower (but more affordable) solid state drives.
The new high-speed SATA II solid state drive (left) will have a read speed of up to 120 MB/s and a write speed of up to 100 MB/s. This is 20 MB/s faster in both read and write speeds from the current OCZ SATA II solid state drive.
The OCZ Core series of SSDs (right) are not yet in the market, but it promises to be much more affordable. It will have a very fast read speed of up to 118 MB/s but a much slower write speed of 40 MB/s.
Both SSDs will be available in capacities of 32 GB and 64 GB. The ultra-fast models will have a higher MTBF (mean time before failure) of 2 million hours while the OCZ Core models will have a MTBF of 1.5 million hours. That's like 171 to 228 years of continuous use...
