How Do I Prevent My Computer From Going To Sleep?
Ever left your computer downloading something from the Internet overnight and wake up only to find that it had also gone to sleep? If you need your computer to remain "awake" while you are away, then follow this tip!
-
Go to Control Panel (Start -> Control Panel) and click on Power Options.
- In the Power Options page, click on the Change plan settings option of the power plan you are currently using. In this example, we are using the Balanced power plan.
-
It will show you the Edit Plan Settings page for the selected power plan. By default, the Balanced power plan is set to put your computer to sleep after 15 minutes of idle time (if it's running on battery power) or 30 minutes (if it's plugged into main power).
- To keep it awake, just select the Never option. In this example, we set the Balanced power plan to never put the computer to sleep if it's running on main power. If you want to keep the computer awake indefinitely even when it's running on battery power, you can do so by setting the same option under the On battery section.
- Once you are done, click Save changes and you are done! Your computer will no longer "sleep" even if you leave it alone for hours.
