IDE/RAID Control

Common Options : RAID, IDE, Disabled

Quick Review

This BIOS feature controls the functionality of the onboard IDE RAID controller.

When set to RAID, the IDE controller's RAID BIOS will be loaded at boot. You will be allowed to combine two or more hard drives in a RAID array.

When set to IDE, the RAID BIOS will not be loaded at boot. The IDE controller will function in the non-RAID mode.

When set to Disabled, the IDE controller will be disabled. Any drive connected to it will not be accessible.

If you want to create a RAID array using hard drives connected to the onboard IDE controller, you should set this BIOS feature to RAID.

But if you do not intend to create a RAID array, you should set it to IDE. This skips the loading of the RAID BIOS which speeds up the boot process.

If you do not have any IDE drives connected to the controller, you can disable this BIOS feature. This further speeds up the boot process by skipping the scan for IDE devices connected to the controller. It also frees up the IRQ that would normally be used by the IDE controller.
