PAVP Paranoid Mode

Common Options : (32+96)128MB, (48+96)144MB, (64+96)160MB, (128+96)224MB, (256+96)352MB

Quick Review

This BIOS option actually sets the amount of system memory reserved for use by the Intel integrated graphics core if the PAVP Paranoid mode is selected (via the PAVP Mode BIOS option). In other words, it is the DVMT/FIXED Memory BIOS option in disguise.

When set to (32+96)128MB, the BIOS will allocate 32 MB of system memory as graphics memory, and 96 MB of system memory as PAVP memory.

When set to (48+96)144MB, the BIOS will allocate 48 MB of system memory as graphics memory, and 96 MB of system memory as PAVP memory.

When set to (64+96)160MB, the BIOS will allocate 64 MB of system memory as graphics memory, and 96 MB of system memory as PAVP memory.

When set to (128+96)224MB, the BIOS will allocate 128 MB of system memory as graphics memory, and 96 MB of system memory as PAVP memory.

When set to (256+96)352MB, the BIOS will allocate 256 MB of system memory as graphics memory, and 96 MB of system memory as PAVP memory.

The allocated graphics memory and PAVP memory can only be accessed by the integrated graphics core and will not be visible or usable to the operating system and applications. The PAVP memory is fixed at 96 MB, so we need not worry about it.

If you only use your computer for work, or play games that are not graphics-intensive, you should set this BIOS option to (32+96)128MB. That is more than enough framebuffer memory to support a 30" LCD monitor, even with 32-bit colour and triple-buffering enabled.

You can increase the amount of graphics memory reserved if you use more than 1 monitor, or play 3D games that will require additional space for texture storage. However, the performance of the integrated graphics core is only partially dependent on the amount of graphics memory. Doubling the amount of graphics memory will not double the performance of the integrated graphics core.
