CPU Internal Thermal Control

Common Options : Enabled, Disabled

Quick Review

This BIOS feature controls the Thermal Monitor feature of certain Intel processors (Intel Pentium 4, up to the Intel Core i7). Whenever the processor's operating temperature rises above its specified limit, the thermal monitor will attempt to reduce the processor's thermal output by inserting null cycles, or reduce its clock speed. This can be controlled using the Thermal Management BIOS feature.

Doing so reduces the processor's performance but prevents it from being damaged by excessively high temperature. The processor will return to normal operation when the thermal monitor detects that the temperature has dropped to specified limits.

When enabled, the processor's thermal monitor will be allowed to throttle the processor's performance to reduce thermal output when the processor exceeds its specified thermal limits.

When disabled, the processor's thermal monitor will not throttle the processor's performance even when it exceeds its specified thermal limits.

As this feature only kicks in whenever the processor overheats and disengages once the processor cools down, we highly recommend that you keep it enabled.
