Western Digital 150 GB Raptor X Serial ATA Hard Drive Review

The Hard Drive

It is impossible to confuse the Western Digital Raptor X hard drive with any other hard drive because it has a clear window in the top plate, through which you can see the drive mechanism. Also, unlike other hard drives which usually have a label on the top plate, the WD Raptor X's top plate is devoid of any stickers or labels. Instead, Western Digital placed the label on the underside of the drive.

Due to the limited space, the label only lists some important information, like the drive model, date and place of manufacture, and serial number (in case you need to RMA it).

Usable Capacity

The Western Digital Raptor X officially has a formatted capacity of 150,039 MB. We checked that out by formatting it in NTFS using Windows Vista.

The actual formatted capacity was 150,037,590,016 bytes. This is very slightly (1.4 MB) lower than the official formatted capacity.

With about 100 MB allocated to the NTFS file system, the actual usable capacity was only 149,937,451,008 bytes, or just under 150 GB.

Let's take a look at its specifications.
