Soyo BayOne XP
Here's a shot of the Soyo BayOne's circuit board.
Pretty normal, I guess. It has one controller chip. You can see the card-reading slots just above it. The top right corner houses the USB port as well as two LEDs. At the lower right corner is the USB header. Here's a close up on the card readers.
Yet another self-explanatory picture. The smaller one on the left is responsible for accessing Memory Sticks and Memory Stick PRO media. The one on the right handles Type I and Type II Compact Flash (CF) Cards, as well as the Microdrives.
Let's flip the board over and see what's underneath.
Underside of the Circuit Board
Here, you will find the rest of the card readers. The one on the left is for the Multi Media Card (MMC, and no, that's not a car company! ), and Secure Digital Card (SD Card). The one on the right is for the Smart Media Cards (SMC). You also can see where the BayOne was made...
Now, let's have a looksie at the controller chip that we saw earlier. After removing the sticker, we can its model number.
The controller chip was made by GeneSys Logic Inc. Let me quote straight from their website :
"The GL816E is an enhanced, all-in-one USB 2.0 Card Reader controller. It provides the best total solution for your USB 2.0 standalone/PC embedded flash card reader/writer design."
