Fan & Controller

Despite having a different fan mounting bracket, the fan carries the same model 'ZF8015ATM'. As the name suggests, it's an 80 x 15 mm frameless fan. It also uses two layers of ball bearings and has a power consumption of 1.68W.

Its noise characteristics are very similar to that of the VF700 - reasonably quiet at 5V, and a tad more noticeable at 12V. Please note that even at 12V, it's still slightly quieter than the stock fan of an NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra in 'idle mode'. The VF900-Cu also comes with a Fan Mate 2 controller which allows you to fine-tune the fan speed.

Speed Control

The Y-cable that connects the cooler's fan to the power source is quite long. This makes it possible to mount the fan controller outside the chassis.

Miscellaneous Parts

Unlike previous Zalman products that we reviewed, Zalman has taken a big step backwards by not providing any spare parts, especially when many tiny parts are involved.

In fact, during our photo session, we actually lost one of the rubber washers. Luckily, we still had some spares from the old Zalman VF700 cooler.
