Design
The Steelpad QcK+ comprises mainly of "fabric" supported by a rubber layer that makes up the entire base of the mouse pad. This design allows maximum flexibility, in terms of storage life without compromising the usability of the mouse pad.
However, the choice of material is hygienically questionable. This is because fabrics have the tendency to absorb and retain perspiration. In fact, the accumulated deposit becomes a very good medium for bacteria to thrive in!
The good news though is that the Steelpad QcK+ is completely washable! But I have yet to test if it's machine wash safe.
The design imprint on the Steelpad QcK+ should last for quite some time before fading, as it managed to withstand the barrage of fingernail abuse I subjected it to before it succumbed.
Durability
The nature of the Steelpad QcK+'s construction posed a different challenge. Therefore, the evaluation methodology was adapted to reflect the differences in this mouse pad. This provides our readers with the proper insight into this true durability.
With the updated testing methodology, the elasticity of the Steelpad QcK+'s rubber base was quickly tested by performing multiple folds to simulate storage conditions. The end result was rather impressive since there were no signs of significant wear or overstretching of the rubber base.
Later, we tested the durability of the mousing surface by subjecting the Steelpad QcK+ to an abrasively-surfaced mouse that either had worn out feet or were feet-less.
As I am a serial Coco-Crunch (breakfast/lunch/dinner) Addict myself, I tend to have a lot them in front of my laptop. This means leaving the bowl very often on the Steelpad QcK+ with plenty of chocolate milk stains to boot.
Fortunately, cleaning it was as simple as soaking the Steelpad QcK+ in a solution of warm water, some antiseptic for safe measures and a mild detergent. After that, I merely air-dried it to restore it to its original condition.
However, the Steelpad QcK+ isn't dust-resistant. So, you'll find yourself giving this mouse pad baths once in a while and gutting your ball mouse for accumulated dust balls!
