Camera Shootout : ASUS ZenFone 2 Vs. Samsung Galaxy S6 & Apple iPhone 6
Smartphones have now replaced many digital cameras and even DSLRs as the camera of choice for many people. Not only can it take great photos these days, it can do so in more creative ways, thanks to innovations like the selfie stick. Therefore, it is no surprise that the smartphone's photographic capabilities are one of its most important features.
We were one of the lucky ones to snag a unit of the ASUS ZenFone 2, which we have since unboxed for your viewing pleasure. This is the premium 5.5" ZE551ML model with 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of flash storage.
We have been using multiple smartphones to take our photos and videos at various locations to test them out. Take a look at our results, and see for yourself how the ZenFone 2 stacks up against the Galaxy S6 / Galaxy S6 edge and the Apple iPhone 6.
In this comparison, we will compare the photos we took with the ASUS ZenFone 2 against the Galaxy S6 / Galaxy S6 edge and the Apple iPhone 6. Before we start, let's compare the camera specifications of the four smartphones :

As you can see, the comparison is quite unfair as both the Apple iPhone 6 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 / Galaxy S6 Edge are at least twice as expensive as the ASUS ZenFone 2. However, we can only work with what we have. So keep that in mind when you compare the pictures taken.
Because the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge have the same camera, we will consider them as a singular "Samsung Galaxy S6" for the purpose of this comparison. The following pictures have not been edited in any form, except the "full" pictures which have been resized to make them more comparable in megapixels.

Wooden Tissue Box
In this shot of a wooden tissue box, all three smartphones did well, with the Apple iPhone 6 demonstrating a greater depth of field than the ASUS ZenFone 2 and the Samsung Galaxy S6. The greater depth of field may be good or bad, depending on the situation, and the kind of photo you want to take. But keep that in mind for the rest of the article, as you will see the ASUS ZenFone 2 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 produce photos that have a better bokeh effect but also a smaller area in focus.

Wooden Tissue Box (A Closer Look)
In the examination of the carvings on the box, both the ASUS ZenFone 2 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 had greater resolution than the Apple iPhone 6 but the Galaxy S6 seemed to lose some details on close inspection. The Apple iPhone 6 had the best contrast of the three smartphones.
