The End Of The Road
To make way for new models, some of the older models will inevitably be discontinued. This is the latest processor lifecycle roadmap from Intel.
PDN : Product Discontinuation Notice
EOL : End Of Lifecycle (Last order date, with orders non-cancellable/returnable)
It looks like the 65 nm Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6850 and QX6800 quad-core processors are scheduled to be phased out by next month (July). The Core 2 Duo E4500 and Pentium Dual-Core E2140 have already reached EOL this month.
However, the remaining 65 nm Core 2 Duo E6xxx and E4xxx processors will only be phased out by the first quarter of 2009. It doesn't look like Intel is in any hurry to switch completely to the 45 nm Core 2 E8xxx and E7xxx processors.
