Corsair Solid State Drives

Like many memory manufacturers, Corsair has also branched out into the solid state drive (SSD) market. In fact, they have a rather extensive line-up of 2.5" solid state drives divided into three series :

  • Maximum Performance : Corsair Performance 3 Series
  • Mainstream Performance : Corsair Force Series
  • Value : Corsair Nova Series

Today, we will be looking at the Corsair Force Series F90 solid state drive, which is one of their Mainstream Performance-grade solid state drives. It features the following key features :

  • Maximum sequential read speed 285MB/second

  • Maximum sequential write speed 275 MB/second

  • Random 4K write performance of 50,000 IOPS (4 K aligned)

  • Latest generation SandForce controller and MLC NAND flash for fast performance

  • Internal SATA II connectivity

  • TRIM support (O/S support required)

  • Included 2.5" to 3.5" bracket for installation on your desktop computer

  • 3 years warranty

Let's find out how well this drive performs!

Packaging

The Corsair F90 SSD comes in a small cardboard box. Both the Corsair Force series and Corsair Nova series appear to use the same packaging, using a sticker on the lower right corner to identify the drive inside. The back has a general description of Corsair SSDs plus another label that lists the SKU number and the country of manufacture. The Corsair F90 has the SKU number of CSSD-F90GB2-BRKT. This particular drive was manufactured in Taiwan.

The box is divided into two compartments inside. One compartment contained the Corsair F90 solid state drive (enclosed within a hard plastic case), while the other compartment held the 3.5" drive bay adaptor and a set of screws. When you take everything out, this is what you should get :

  • One Corsair Force Series F90 90 GB solid state drive
  • One Corsair 3.5" drive bay bracket
  • One packet of 8 mounting screws
