Solving The Problem With SAV
If you are having the same problem with Symantec AntiVirus, here is how you can solve it.
First, open up Symantec AntiVirus. Expand the Configure tree and select the File System Auto-Protect option. You will see the screen below.
Now, click on the Advanced... button on the upper right corner of the screen. It will open up the following screen.
Look at the Startup options category. By default, it's set to System start.
To prevent Symantec AntiVirus from messing around with your paging file, set it to load the File System Auto-Protect feature when Symantec AntiVirus start. This essentially delays the loading of that feature until after Windows XP loads up and initializes Symantec AntiVirus.
Now, all you need to do now is reset your paging file size and reboot!
Why Does This Happen?
We are still not entirely sure. But let's see what Symantec's answer was for Norton Anti-Virus.
This issue can also be caused by a timing conflict between another program or driver loading on start up and the main Norton AntiVirus (NAV) host file ccApp.exe.
I suggest that you remove ccApp.exe from the Windows run line and then add the program to the Windows Startup folder so that the application loads later in the Windows boot order.
So, that could be the reason why forcing both anti-virus solutions to load their Auto-Protect features AFTER Windows XP loads solved the problem of the paging file resetting itself to 1535MB or 1536MB.
