Introduction
Listening to music on the go seems to be the ‘in’ thing these days. Here and there, we see people showing off their music players like Apple iPods and music-capable mobile phones. Even though the fad of ‘mobile music’ is not that new, this is a market segment that still has lots of potential.
Ever-changing technological advancements in memory chips, miniaturization, ergonomics, power efficiency, and audio quality encourage people to keep upgrading their devices to get the best and most advanced audio player in the market. With such great prospects in this lucrative market, would a leading mobile phone manufacturer like Nokia stay away for long?
Of course not! In fact, they were well aware of the possibilities in this market. The result of their efforts in this market has resulted in the new Nokia XpressMusic range of mobile phones.
The name ‘XpressMusic’ is obviously a direct challenge to Sony Ericsson's Walkman range of mobile phones. Of course, XpressMusic doesn't sound quite as cool as Walkman.
Still, it would be interesting to see what Nokia can do to trump Sony Ericsson's branding efforts. So, today, we will be taking a look at Nokia’s first XpressMusic phone - the Nokia 5300 XpressMusic.
Packaging
The Nokia 5300 XpressMusic comes in a sturdy cardboard box that we commonly see with other Nokia phones in this price range.
To emphasize the music-playing ability of the Nokia 5300, the box sports a musical theme in the front with a picture of a singer with her band. The back of the box is where Nokia lists the main features of the phone and battery, as well as other miscellaneous notes.
One side of the box shows the IMEI (International Model Number) of the phone along with a barcode. Standard stuff on mobile phone packages in the market today. The other side of the box lists the recommended (and optional) accessories that can be used with the phone.
The layout and design of the Nokia 5300's box is pretty standard, as far as Nokia boxes go. You cannot be mistaken the Nokia look!
I personally like how Nokia design their boxes. Their minimalistic design is very straight-forward and easy on the eyes.
Contents
When you flip open the box, you will see a flap with a window that showcases the phone. The flap lists the music-playback features of the phone. It's a nice flashy addition to a rather simple box.
Under that flap, you will find a cardboard tray containing the Nokia 5300 XpressMusic phone, a battery, the stereo earphones, two earphone cushions and a 3.5 mm headphone adapter. But that's not all.
Once you remove the tray, you will see a plastic tray below. It holds the remaining items in the package, like the charger, USB cable, memory card, utility CD, manual, brochure and warranty card.
