Business Disk WinMark 99

Business Disk WinMark 99 plays back a standard suite of business applications that includes the likes of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and so on. Not the typical disk intensive applications but what you would use everyday in the office. The results were quite surprising.

The best performing setup was hardware span, which should in fact be on par with the normal single hard disk drive setup! And the worst performing setup was the RAID 0 with the 2 KB stripe size.

High-End Disk WinMark 99

From the High-End Disk WinMark 99 results, we can see that RAID 0 setups generally provided the best performance although their advantage isn't overwhelming, compared to spanning or even mirroring.

Surprisingly, RAID 0 with the stripe size of 64 KB was the worst performer. This is probably because it failed a certain test. We'll take a look into this matter in the coming pages.
