The Installation Continues!
The next screen displays the license terms for the Windows Vista edition that you selected. Again, you can see that the license terms for all editions of Windows Vista are present but displayed only based on what you selected in the previous screen.
No, I didn't think you would actually read through all that legalese. I'm not even sure that the Force will keep me awake and sane enough to complete all that legal mumbo-jumbo. I suppose we will just have to assume that Microsoft isn't an agent of the Dark Side...
So, with our fingers crossed, let's just tick the I accept the license terms checkbox and click the Next button.
Now, you will be allowed to select the type of installation you prefer. If you are installing Windows Vista on a clean system, there will only be one option to choose from - Custom (Advanced).
If you are upgrading from Windows XP though, you will be able to select the Upgrade option. This preserves most of your files and settings.
To do this, you must initate the Windows Vista installation routine from within Windows XP. That means booting up Windows XP and then loading the installation routine on the Windows Vista DVD.
However, please note that it's a one-way trip. You won't be able to uninstall Windows Vista after the upgrade.
Coming back to the topic at hand, click on the Custom (Advanced) option, my young Padawan... Yes, that's correct. If you do well, I may even let you touch my lightsaber...
Now, you will be asked to select the partition where you wish to have Windows Vista installed. Since this hard drive is unpartitioned, click on Drive options (advanced).
It gives you access to useful tools that allow you to delete, extend, format and of course, create a new partition.
Now, partition this hard drive any way you like. After you are done, select the partition in which you want Windows Vista installed and click Next.
