The Super Talent FTM28GX25H

The Super Talent 128 GB UltraDrive GX SSD, also known by its official model number FTM28GX25H, looks like a 2.5" notebook hard disk drive. It was certainly designed to fit the 2.5" form factor, allowing it to easily replace any 2.5" hard disk drive. But you know it isn't a hard disk drive the second you hold it in your hands. Even with a full metal case, it feels as light as a feather!

As it only serves to protect the NAND chips, controller and circuit board inside from static damage, the case is completely flat on both sides. The top half is black, decorated simply with the Super Talent logo and the word SSD on the lower right corner. The label is located on the underside. It clearly states the model number and storage capacity.

Usable Capacity

Super Talent never listed the FTM28GX25H's storage capacity in bytes, only that it's 128 GB. We checked out actual capacity by formatting it in NTFS using Windows Vista.

The actual formatted capacity was 128,033,222,656 bytes. This is slightly (33 MB) higher than the official capacity of 128 GB. With about 95 MB allocated to the NTFS file system, the actual usable capacity was slightly below 128 GB.
