This is the most important test for those who intend to use the My Passport Slim as a portable boot drive. In this small random access test, the 1 TB My Passport Slim did very well, especially in writes, where it beat the 2 TB Western Digital My Passport by 21% and the WD Elements by 2.5x!

When it came to large 512 KB random accesses, the 1 TB My Passport Slim was the fastest portable HDD in the comparison. It was especially fast at large, random writes, coming in 12% faster than the 2 TB Western Digital My Passport and 2x faster than the WD Elements.
In fact, it was only a little slower when paired with a USB 2.0 interface, coming in third and beating even the 1.5 TB Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex running at USB 3.0.

The 1 TB My Passport Slim was the second fastest drive at small 4 KB sequential accesses, just behind the 2 TB Western Digital My Passport and just ahead of the 1.5 TB Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex.

This is one of the two most important tests for the 1 TB My Passport Slim as this shows how fast it is at transferring large files. Again, the 1 TB My Passport Slim proved to be a very fast drive, delivering virtually the same performance as the 2 TB Western Digital My Passport. Both of these high-speed Western Digital drives are almost 3x faster than their much cheaper, "commoditized" WD Elements brother. You do get what you pay for when you buy these faster drives!
