Packaging
The Western Digital My Book Home Edition came in a very nice turquoise-coloured retail box. Inside, the drive was ensconced within a plastic tray which protects it from shock and direct trauma. Everything was well-packed in plastic.
Contents
Inside the box, we found the following items :
- One Western Digital 1 TB My Book Home Edition external hard drive
- One USB cable
- One FireWire cable
- One AC adaptor
- Two power cables
- One Quick Installation Guide and other documentation
Cables & Documents
The kit came with two cables - a FireWire cable with two standard connectors, and a mini-USB to USB cable. Unfortunately, Western Digital did not provide an eSATA cable, which is a shame since this drive came with eSATA support.
There were three pieces of documents but the most important was the Quick Installation Guide. The large pictorial guide is useful in getting newbies started. But anyone familiar with external hard drives should have little problem connecting it to the PC and get started, even without the guide.
Power Adaptor
The My Book comes with a standard AC-DC adaptor that supports a wide range of AC input power (100 to 240 V at 47-63 Hz) and outputs a steady 24 watts of power (12 V DC, 2.0 A) to the drive.
Western Digital appear to package the My Book kits for worldwide distribution although their model numbers appear to suggest some kind of localization. In any case, our kit came with two different power cables.
