Portable hard disk drives have become commoditized, with price and storage capacity being the main considerations for many consumers. Western Digital hopes to differentiate their My Passport Ultra (2015) drive by cladding it in a sleek plastic case, and bundling it with their WD Backup and WD Security software. The WD Security software allows you to protect the drive contents with 256-bit encryption, while the WD Backup software adds an automatic backup feature that supports Dropbox.

Because it uses a plastic case, the 2015 My Passport Ultra is slightly larger (but lighter) than the metal-clad My Passport Ultra Metal / Anniversary Edition. Check out the size comparison below :
