The Memory Chip
Mushkin has chosen the Samsung K4H560838F-TCCD SDRAM chip for the Mushkin 1GB PC4400 Hi Perf Dual Pack modules.
It is a 256-Mbit chip with an access time of 4.0ns. It was originally designed to run at 166MHz at CL2.5 but the new revision CD chips are rated for 250MHz operation at the timing of 3-4-4. Translated into DDR terms, that's a maximum speed of 500MHz DDR at 3-4-4-8.
However, Mushkin did not pick these memory chips to run them at 500MHz at latencies of 3-4-4-8. Instead, they chose to run them at just 275MHz, with even tighter timings of 2.5-4-4-8. These modules certainly have got a lot of potential to overclock, maybe beyond 275MHz, which has been the case with other TCCD modules we have tested here.
Let's take a look at the specifications.
