eDimensional AudioFX Force Feedback Gaming Headset

The eDimensional AudioFX is certainly a very interesting headset. In addition to the usual functions of providing crystal clear audio reproduction and recording, it also produces vibrations in the earcups for added realism!

While vibrating earcups may sound like a stupid idea, they do actually improve the gaming experience by letting you actually "feel" the sound. In addition, the intensity of the vibrations also vary according to the sound. This actually improves audio localization by strengthening the audio cues with vibratory cues.

This feature also works great in movies, particularly in action-packed movies like Saving Private Ryan. You can literally feel each explosion! Too bad we cannot hook the AudioFX up to our home theater.

Its audio recording is also excellent. Even though the microphone is offset about 5 cm away from the mouths, the voice captured was clean and crystal clear. Background noise was minimal. In fact, it's hard to hear the noise unless you crank up the volume.

It's also great to note that the AudioFX is comfortable to wear for extended periods of time. Made entirely of plastic, it's light and well-padded. eDimensional has also been very kind to combine all three wires into a single cable, which really makes cable management a lot easier.

Another advantage of the AudioFX is its ease of installation. All you need to do is plug the three connectors in and it's ready to use! You don't even have to install any driver for the vibration feature to work. It cannot get any simpler than that.

However, our tests also revealed potential incompatibilities. The vibration feature of AudioFX does not seem to work with our test notebook - the BenQ Joybook 7000. No matter what we tried, the vibration feature simply wouldn't work. In addition, we noted a persistent hum that was really annoying. As far as this notebook is concerned, the AudioFX can only function as an ordinary gaming headset.

If you are looking for a gaming headset, you should definitely consider the eDimensional AudioFX Force Feedback Gaming Headset. It will not only deliver crisp audio reproduction and recording, it will also boost the degree of realism in your games and movies. All in a light, comfortable headset that's easy to install and use.

Because of its excellent performance and ease of use, Team ARP is proud to honour the eDimensional AudioFX with our Reviewer's Choice Award! Congratulations, eDimensional!

* Our New Review System

ARP is committed to developing new ways to improve your experience with us. As part of our continuous efforts to improve the value of our reviews to you, we are implementing a new review system.

This new review system is designed to allow you to quickly receive information on the latest hardware. This new system also allows you to quickly get the gist of the review without reading through it. This can be very useful, especially in situations where you need to make a quick purchase decision.

In this new system, we start with a Product Overview whenever a company sends us a press release about their latest product. We shift through extraneous PR-talk to create a straightforward summary of the product's features as well as specifications. This allows you to quickly find out all the pertinent details about the product, without reading through official press releases.

When we receive the product for review, we will quickly take photos of it and create a Pictorial Review. The purpose of a pictorial review is to allow you, the reader, to quickly examine the product visually. It may help you make better purchase decisions, especially if you cannot wait for the full review.

After thorough testing, we will post a Comprehensive Review of the product. This adds on to the pictorial review with comprehensive test results and our final conclusion on the product.

But no matter whether you are reading a Pictorial Review or a Comprehensive Review, you can always read the summary of the review as well as examine the product's specifications right on the first page. In all our new reviews, we will maintain the first page as a Product Overview page. If the product is listed in PriceGrabber, you can also check out the lowest price online.

We hope this new review system will make your experience a lot more enjoyable and informative!
