ED#210 : Sony Announces VAIO Issues With Windows 10

Sorry, Sony VAIO users, it looks like it will be some time before some of you can #UpgradeYourWorld.

Last month, we covered Sony's warning to VAIO users not to upgrade to Windows 10 due to compatibility issues. Sony has finally revealed Windows 10 upgrade limitations for VAIO desktops and laptops.

Sony Announces VAIO Issues With Windows 10

Let's take a look at which VAIO PCs can upgrade to Windows 10, and which VAIO PCs need to wait much longer.

Only Newer PCs Were Tested

First of all, Sony only tested 2011 and newer Sony VAIO PCs. No tests were performed on older systems. Sony will not be testing the older VAIO PCs, so if you are wondering whether it's safe to install Windows 10 on those systems - you will only know when you actually install it yourself.

Sony Only Ran Preliminary Tests

Please note that the following advisories are based on preliminary tests that Sony ran. What did they mean by preliminary tests? Basically, they just upgraded from Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1 to Windows 10 on thos VAIO PCs and checked to see if "anything broke".

In other words, these are only initial tests. That's why Sony pointed out that systems that pass these preliminary tests will not necessarily be fully functional with Windows 10. They will continue to test these newer VAIO systems and issue additional compatibility information and/or Windows 10 driver updates later this year.

Sony expects to release new upgrade information and/or driver upgrades by October 2015 for VAIO PCs with Windows 8.1 preinstalled, and November 2015 of VAIO PCs with Windows 8 preinstalled.
