Driver Resolution Comparison (No AA)
Both 17x series drivers were faster than the older 169 driver, with the latest beta driver delivering a small frame rate boost at 1024 x 768 but the 171.17 WHQL driver edging it out at the higher resolutions.
As you can see, the biggest difference in frame rate was seen at the lowest tested resolution of 1024 x 768, with the 174.74 Beta driver edging out the 171.17 WHQL driver by 1.5 fps and the older 169.21 WHQL driver by 2.2 fps.
Driver Resolution Comparison (2x AA)
When we enabled 2x anti-aliasing though, there was a slight change. The new 174.74 Beta driver lost its performance advantage at 1024 x 768. It was slightly slower than the 171.17 WHQL driver at all resolutions.
Here, you can clearly see the performance difference was really minimal when anti-aliasing was enabled. The fastest driver in this comparison is the ForceWare 171.17 WHQL driver and it delivered an average frame rate that was 1.63% faster than the ForceWare 169.21 WHQL driver. Obviously, the difference is too minimal to matter much.
