The Main Heatsinks
Zalman has made a lot of changes since the ZM80 such as trying to make the cooler fit into various systems without any compatibility issues. While attempting to achieve better compatibility, the ZM80C was changed to have less surface area than the old ZM80A by making it shorter to steer clear of the motherboard capacitors. Having less surface area will surely compromise its performance, so Zalman decided to compensate the loss of surface area by making the heat sinks wider. So the ZM80D boasts even more surface area than the ZM80A, but realistically it's actually not much.
Each heat sink measures about 14cm wide, 8cm tall, 1cm thick, while my Radeon 9800 Pro is about 19cm wide and 10cm tall. So about 58% of the card will be covered by the heatsink. That's not very big after all!
The color of the heat sink has changed from gun metal gray to bright blue on the ZM80D-HP. Like the ZM80C, the heatsink is anodized.
