OCZ Solid State Drives

From a computer memory company, OCZ Technology has evolved into one of the top SSD manufacturers in the world. They not only offer solid state drives in the traditional 2.5" form factor, but also PCI Express. Their current line-up are :

  • OCZ Vertex 3.20 Series
    - Mainstream 2.5" SSDs for desktops and notebooks

The OCZ Vector Series consists of 3 models of different capacities and performance ratings. On the right, we have a brief summary of the different OCZ Vector solid-state drives.

Today, we will be looking at the OCZ Vector 256 GB solid state drive, which boasts the following key features :

  • Vector delivers the industry's fastest performance. Rated for 100,000 random read and 95,000 random write IOPS to deliver ultimate responsiveness and a better overall computing and workstation experience than any other storage solution.

  • Vector redefines reliability and offers a premium SSD solution designed from the ground up for enhanced stability, quality, and durability.

  • Get consistently faster sustained speeds with the complete spectrum of file types and sizes, including both compressible and incompressible data for balanced, long-lasting performance like no other drive out there.

  • Built to last, Vector maximizes drive life with low write amplification, efficient garbage collection, and an advanced suite of NAND flash management to provide years of hard drive-humiliating performance that is second to none.

  • 5 years warranty

Let's find out how well this drive performs!

Packaging

The 256 GB OCZ Vector SSD came in a small shrink-wrapped box. The box design is the same for all 3 models, but the drive's capacity is printed at the lower right corner of the box. If you are looking for specifications at the back of the box, well, you are out of luck. You are expected to have done your research on the OCZ Vector before venturing out to buy one, and rightly so - it is one of the most expensive SSDs you can buy today.

Once you tear off the shrinkwrap, and remove the contents, you will be greeted by a black box with some papers on one side, and a black metal desktop adaptor on the other side. Open the black box reveals the 256 GB OCZ Vector SSD within, with a plastic pack of screws next to it.

Although solid state drives can withstand a lot more shock and are virtually impervious to vibration, they are still sensitive to electrostatic discharge. Hence, you will find the drive shipped in an anti-static plastic bag with a warning sticker. Ground yourself before you touch it.

When you take everything out, this is what you should find :

  • One OCZ Vector solid state drive (245 GB)
  • One 3.5" desktop bay adaptor with 4 medium screws and 4 small screws
  • One installation manual for the OCZ Vector solid state drive
  • One installation manual with an activation key for Acronis True Image HD
  • One I Love My SSD case sticker
