The Launch (Continued)

The event began at 10.30 a.m. with the arrival of Peter Mah, Sales Director of palmOne Singapore, along with his team.

Mr. Mah is responsible for introducing business development initiatives to open up new markets while increasing palmOne’s market share within South East Asia.

In his welcome address, he spoke of the growth in palmOne’s worldwide sales and of the company’s budding family of products. The product line-up includes Zire Handheld, Tungsten Handheld and, now, Treo’s range of smartphones.

He then spoke of the Treo 650 itself, explaining palmOne's newest offering was neither made as a cell phone with PDA functions nor a PDA which could be used as a cell phone; it was designed as a new device meant to replace both; a device that served both of those functions as well as - or better than - any cell phone or PDA; a device that could rival a laptop for its mobility, if not its functionality.

The presentation was then turned over to his team members for a more detailed introduction of the Treo 650.

Mr Yeo Chee Yong, the Sales Manager for South Asia, first explained that the typical businessperson on the go usually carries three devices: a cell phone, a PDA and a laptop. All these can be a hassle to juggle as they move about with all the speed that their work requires of them.

In the Treo 650, palmOne proposes an alternative: a single device to replace all three that were previously needed, which is able to perform all the necessary functions. The typical businessperson thereby gains ease of mobility without sacrificing functionality.

As a point, Mr Yeo had hooked the projector up to his own Treo 650 for the presentation, instead of using the laptop provided.

Next, we were given a demonstration of what the Treo 650 can actually do. This was conducted by Mr. Kent Ng, Wireless Major Accounts Manager of palmOne Inc.

When the demonstrations came to an end, we were given the chance to try out and use a Treo 650 for a short while. Each of the team members had their very own Treo 650 which they lent to us to try out for a bit.

The day culminated in the photo session of the palmOne team posing with their Treo 650s.
