Testing Methodology

We tested exclusively in Windows Vista, with the latest updates. We chose these games and applications for benchmarking :

  • Crysis Warhead - Avalanche
  • Left 4 Dead
  • CINEBENCH R10
  • x264 HD Benchmark 3.0
  • Super PI Mod 1.5

Crysis Warhead is latest instalment of the Crysis franchise. Both Crysis and Crysis Warhead are currently the most strenous tests of a graphics card's capability. It is the perfect performance benchmark for desktop sadists. If you want to learn how to use it as a benchmark, take a look at the Crysis Benchmarking Guide.

Left 4 Dead uses the latest Source engine from Valve, and supports multi-core processing as well as physics-based animation. Thus it would be a good test of the CPU's multi-core processing capability.

x264 HD Benchmark 3.0 is the latest version of the highly popular x264 video encoding benchmark. The new x264 HD Benchmark 3.0 features the latest x264 encoder which supports multi-core processing, so it is an excellent test of a processor's multi-core performance. You can download a copy and try it for yourself.

All games were tested at 16x AF and no AA, unless stated otherwise. The Intel Turbo Mode Technology BIOS option was also disabled to obtain accurate results.

A minimum of 5 test runs were performed at each setting. The three closest results were taken and averaged to obtain the final frame rate. If the test results varied too much, the entire test was repeated.
