The ASUS ENGTX280 TOP
The ASUS ENGTX280 TOP is a dual-slot graphics card that is about 11.12 cm thick and 26.67 cm long. For some reason, ASUS chose to paste a tacky forest-pattern camouflage scheme on the shroud. As camouflage patterns have a nasty habit of doing, it made the warrior girl hard to make out. As we have said it with the ASUS ENGTX260 TOP GeForce GTX 260 graphics card - it's distracting and ugly.
Like all new graphics cards, the ASUS ENGTX280 TOP supports PCI Express 2.0 with a 5 Gbps signalling rate. When used with a motherboard that supports PCI Express 2.0, this GeForce GTX 260 card will have effectively double the PCI Express bandwidth of PCI Express 1.0 cards.
Of course, that does not mean the ENGTX280 TOP will be twice as fast as older PCI Express graphics cards. In fact, PCI Express bandwidth will only have a minimal effect on its graphics processing capability. The ENGTX280 TOP will still run fine on your current motherboard even if it only supports the PCI Express 1.1 standard. It is backward compatible with PCI Express 1.1 and will merely revert to the 2.5 Gbps signalling rate and a lower 8 GB/s bandwidth with these motherboards.
The most important things it to make sure that your power supply comes with at least two 6-pin PCI Express power cable, and one spare Molex power cable. Like all GeForce GTX 280 cards, the ENGTX280 TOP requires two PCI Express power cables to work - one 6-pin and one 8-pin. The kit comes with an 8-pin adaptor so you can convert two 6-pin cables into an 8-pin cable if your PSU does not have any 8-pin power cable.
The standard GeForce GTX 260 consumes about 236 W of power. As this is an overclocked version, it will consume a little more power. So, you should have a quality power supply with a power output of around 550 W.
