Making Calls

Let's check out how you make a call on the Smartphone by going through it one step at a time.

1. Selecting The Program

You can only make calls from two places in this Smartphone by default (if you have no other programs installed). First is the Home screen which is like the Today screen in a Pocket PC. Your current phone profile, calendar events, etc., etc. are all displayed on this screen. And like the Pocket PC's Today screen, it's customizable!

The second place you can dial from is through the Contacts program. It lists out all the numbers in your SIM card as well as contacts that you have synchronized from your desktop's Outlook database. Therefore, you can have a few numbers attached to a single record, just like in Outlook.

2. Dialing The Number

After you decide which program you're going to dial out with, it's time to start dialing a number. To find a number in your phone book, you can use one of the following methods :-

  • Key in the first alphabet of the name : This is how you will usually do it. If you were looking for the name Adrian Wong, you would press 2. This would filter the phone book leaving those that start with the letters a, b or c, followed by entries with the letters a, b or c in it. Keying in the next number would filter it even further.

  • Key in PART of the name : This is one of the Smartphone features that I find extremely helpful. You can just key in ANY PART of the name you wish to search for instead of typing it from the start. So, if I wanted to search for Chan Wei Min, I can just enter 934 which conincides with the word WEI and the list will be filtered with all entries containing WEI. There's just one little caveat about this feature... You cannot insert spaces! If we use example above, I cannot enter WEI MIN as the search query as that won't be possible without a space... Hope they will allow the insertion of spaces in Smartphone 2003.

Once you have selected the number you want, you just need to press the DIAL button to initiate the call!
