The Western Digital Elements Play 2 TB Multimedia Drive

The Western Digital Elements Play 2 TB media player is black in colour with a minimalistic design. You will only see an embossed WD logo and silk-screened Dolby Digital and HDMI logos on the top of the player. The front is just adorned with three silk-screened icons denoting the key functions of this media player - it can play music and video files as well as display pictures, and an IR sensor with an LED light that glows blue when the drive is active.

The back of the player is where most of the action is. From left to right, you will find the power socket, a mini-USB 2.0 connector, a HDMI 1.4 port, three composite A/V jacks, a TOSLINK optical audio port and a reset switch. While the original product brochures states that the Elements Play also supports component A/V output, the actual player only supports composite A/V output.

The left side of the drive is occupied by a large grid of ventilation holes. The built-in 2 TB Western Digital Caviar Green AFT hard disk drive can be seen just behind the ventilation holes. On the right side, you will find a single USB 2.0 port, which is used to connect any USB flash drive or even a digital camera with a USB connection.

Underneath, you will find more ventilation holes which have been strategically placed beneath the built-in hard disk drive. The player also has four rubber feet which may look small but actually do a decent job of keeping the player in place. You will also find a label covering one of the player's screws. As you can see, the WD Elements Play was assembled in China with a hard disk drive that's made in Thailand. Globalization at work!
