The Challenge, We Present

Many end-users consider the installation of any new operating system a real nightmare. We admit, it can be really daunting; especially if you are a newbie, or in geek parlance - a n00b.

But fear not, my young Padawan. Let us show you how to install the new Microsoft Windows Vista operating system. We will take you through the installation process, step-by-step and with complete screenshots to boot!

At the end of this guide, we will make you a master at installing Windows Vista, my young Padawan. Once you master it, you will be a force to be reckoned with.

Not only will you become the toast of parties you have never been invited to, your name will be spoken in revered whispers. Even the cheerleaders who never acknowledged your existence in the past will swoon in ecstacy everytime you glide past them....

Hey! HEY! Stop drooling over ME! That's a disgusting habit, young Padawan. Most unbecoming a future Jedi.

So, are you up for the challenge, young Padawan? You are? Then let's get to it!

Begin The Process, We Shall

You will be very happy to know that Microsoft really made Windows Vista easy to install. It only takes eight steps to get the installation process started, and thereafter, Windows Vista will not require any further input from you until it boots up for the first time.

Now it may sound stupid, but if you already have another operating system installed in your PC, make sure you set the BIOS to boot up from the DVD drive before inserting the DVD. Otherwise, your PC will just boot up using that operating system. If you have a clean system, all you need to do is insert the DVD.

Once the DVD boots up and runs the installation routine, this screen pops-up. This is where you need to set your preferred language, the time and currency format, as well as the keyboard or input method.

By default, the language is set to English and the Time and Currency Format is set to the US format. The input default is also the US keyboard layout. But you can change it if you are using a multi-language keyboard.

Click the Next button and you will be brought to this screen, where you can click on the Install now button to begin the installation process. But don't be so quick on the finger, young Padawan...

Since you are new to Windows Vista, you should read up a little before proceeding with the installation. Click on the What to know before installing Windows link.

There is also a Repair your computer option. This is where you can load your Windows Vista recovery file, or reinstall your Windows Vista installation files. Think of it as your X-Wing's emergency engine restart button.

So, remember this link, my young Padawan... If Windows Vista is as buggy as Windows XP, it could mean the difference between reaching home, and a cold, lonely death in deep space.

Okay, now that you know everything you need to know, it's time to click on the Install now button and start the installation process...
