When used with an older USB 2.0 port, the Kingston DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 G3 was nowhere as fast as the DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 Gen. 2, or even the older DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 (DTU30). In fact, it performed like the lower-end DataTraveler Elite 3.0.
However, it was a completely different beast when used with a USB 3.0 port, shooting right to the top of our charts, albeit just 2.5% faster than its predecessor.
Note that while Kingston quoted a maximum read speed of 150 MB/s, the sustained read speed based on our fileset was much lower at just 62 MB/s.

The Kingston DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0 G3 did better at sustained writes, delivering a throughput of almost 35 MB/s. This is almost 6x as fast as older USB 2.0 flash drives. It did well in the USB 2.0 mode, coming in just behind the first-generation Kingston DataTraveler Ultimate 3.0.
Note that while Kingston quoted a maximum write speed of 70 MB/s, the sustained write speed for our fileset was lower at 53 MB/s.
